Work top material selection is among the most critical laboratory furniture decisions. The intended application dictates material choices. Surfaces could be exposed to reagents and caustic substances.
Heavy equipment may need to be supported or only light duty tasks may be performed. Lab Interiors Group can recommend and furnish materials fabricated to your needs, complete with sinks, drains, and accessories.

FunderMax’s premier laboratory work surface, the Max Compact Resistance², is both chemical-resistant and highly mechanical resistant. Max Resistance² consists of approved and tested raw materials, produced under high temperature and pressure, and manufactured without joints and fully enclosed. This work surface it is permanently resistant against moisture penetration and ideal for all types of laboratories where absolute cleanliness of a highly resistant surface is demanded.
Ultra-smooth non-porous surface appearance, composed of 1″ thick molded epoxy resin. Available in four colors: Black, Grey, Putty, and Slate. Excellent resistance to practically all acids, alkalies and solvents, highly resistant to heat and normal physical abuse. Use wherever optimum physical and chemical resisting properties are required. See our video page for installation help.
Developed especially for the laboratory environment Trespa TopLab Plus and TopLab Base offer the highest standard of chemical resistance, antimicrobial performance, strength, and durability. Utilizing specially treated fibers with phenolic resins, high pressures and a unique electron beam curing, these tops outperform other lab top materials including other phenolic brands. Available in various panel thickness and colors TRESPA is well suited for a variety of lab countertop applications. Due to Trespa’s lower weight and ease in fabrication, it is also widely used on mobile units, carts and shelves.
Kewaunee’s EarthResin Worksurfaces and Sinks are:
• a full thickness uniform mixture of modified epoxy resin, with a minimum of 10% post consumer recycled content (by weight)
• designed and engineered to meet SEFA performance specifications, assuring laboratories that will last for decades, matching the building life cycle
• manufactured using modern, environmentally responsible methods and materials that meet or exceed all local, state, and national regulations
• manufactured in the United States of America
Standard stainless steel work tops are fabricated of type 304 stainless steel with a No. 4 finish, but other types and finishes are available when specified. Type 316 is supplied for Perchloric Acid fume hoods. Stainless steel has good chemical resistance to a wide range of reagents, and is recommended for sterile and radiological laboratories.

Composed of a particle board or plywood core with a hard, smooth, surface laminated to the core with water resistant adhesives. Available in a large choice of colors, patterns, and textures. High-pressure laminate work tops can have fair chemical resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalies, and solvents, (depending on color and pattern) and are recommended for light duty purposes.
Hardwood work tops are fabricated of solid edge grain Maple or Oak strips, glued together electronically, and finished with a baked-on clear synthetic varnish or penetrating oil. Hardwood work tops are not recommended for use in chemical laboratories. They are excellent for Physics tables, Electronic benches, and other tables where mechanical or physical work levels are prevalent.
